I hand drew the pattern for the wallpaper made by Astek Home, with matching bedding and curtains as well as the mural above the bed that took many hands, coats of paint and long hours but was 100% worth it and really is the focal point of the room. In order to really make this room one of a kind we had to add in some major custom moments. Welcome to the first room at the Trixie Motel! For this room the goal was to embrace all that is Palm Springs so using the classic pink flamingo as our inspiration was the perfect starting point.Ī cozy bed under an epic feather chandelier, a lounge area, wet bar, a fabulous dressing room and vintage bathroom, what more could you possibly want? And now I finally get to share what we did with you all :) I was one of the most difficult yet rewarding experiences of my life.

A 7 bedroom motel in Palm Springs California, purchased by drag icon Trixie Mattel. Not only were we renovating and designing a run down motel, but the whole process was filmed and is now a TV show streaming on Discovery+! I began the designing and pre production on the show started in early 2021, and by fall we were breaking ground in Palm Springs. I lived in a hotel during filming with my fiancè and two dogs for almost 5 months. I was chosen among hundreds of designers to design the Trixie Motel. This past year I went on the journey of my life as a designer and human being. However, the hotel backed down and the Jewish players were allowed to stay, when Giants manager Bill Terry threatened that he would remove the whole team to another hotel if his Jewish ballplayers were not allowed in.Pink Flamingo Room Trixie Motel, Designed by Dani Dazey In 1935, despite a reservation by the New York Giants baseball team, Jewish players Phil Weintraub and Harry Danning were refused entry to the hotel, which had a "No Jews" policy.
The Flamingo site overlooks Flagler Monument Island in Biscayne Bay. He would continue to stoke the exotic vacation destination image that drove the land boom in the area with stunts like his publicity photos with his elephant Rosie. The automobile racing promoter established the Biscayne Bay Speed Boat Regattas near Belle Isle as a publicity draw for his large new hotel. He saw the smooth waters of Biscayne Bay as the perfect place for a boat racing spectacle, as an attraction for wealthy and refined tourists.
Fisher was determined to avoid the ocean-side beaches where his development partner John S. An adjoining golf course was designed by Captain H.C. Fisher in 1920, designed by Rubush & Hunter of Indianapolis, and opened in 1921.
The hotel was built by pioneering Miami Beach developer Carl G. The Flamingo Hotel overlooked Biscayne Bay on the west side of the newly formed city of Miami Beach, Florida, until the 1950s, when it was torn down to make room for the new Morton Towers development, which is now known as the Flamingo South Beach.
